Join us as we get kids throughout the UK Fit this February ~ #Fit4February
Thanks to the initiative of celebrities such as BBC Radio 2's breakfast show host Chris Evans and Dr Michael Mosley from BBC 2's 'Trust Me I'm a Doctor' many of us are adopting a sugar free February. This is obviously great news and will encourage the healthy eating of many, if only just for one month.
We'd like to step things up a bit and get parents everywhere to join in with What's On 4's 'Get Fit For February'. We're looking at the wealth of activities that children can do, either as a family or in a club or class. Most importantly we're encouraging children to have fun and get fit without even realising it. We spoke in January about The World Health Organization (WHO) regarding childhood obesity as one of the most serious global public health challenges for the 21st century. As we're all more than aware, obese children and adolescents are at an increased risk of developing various health problems and are also more likely to become obese adults. But it's so much more than getting children up and active, it's about building confidence, gaining life skills and having fun.
What's on 4 team member and mum of 3 Mel says 'My girls do a variety of different activities such as dance, horse riding and swimming which have helped their confidence in interacting with others, both adults and children, plus they sleep much better at night. They're much happier when they've been to a club or class and want to chat about their experiences.'
So jump on board with #Fit4Feb, take a look at our social media posts for a lowdown on an activity each day, pop over to our activity information page to find a club, class or group that's near you.
