World Book Day Ideas
What is World Book Day?
World book Day 2017 is once again encouraging children to dress to change lives!
World book day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading.
World Book Day Ltd is a small, registered charity. The financing of World Book Day comes mainly from contributing publishers, the generous sponsorship of National Book Tokens Ltd, some literacy partnerships and other supporters, as well as the participating booksellers who fund the entire cost of the Book Token redemption scheme.
There are events and competitions around the world in order to encourage children to explore reading and develop a love of books.
On this eagerly anticipated day you'll see everything for 'Cat in the Hat' teachers to 'Dennis the Menace' 10 year olds and everything imaginable in between.
Most children and parents alike really enjoy dressing up but if you've left it to the last minute why not have a rummage in the wardrobe for some of these dressing up ideas. So if you can find:
White T-Shirt and black shorts - you can be - Diary of a Wimpy Kid's Greg Heffley
Stripy Top, bobble hat and glasses - you can be - Where's Wally
Everyday clothes, bucket and toy dinosaurs - you can be - Harry and His Bucketful of Dinosaurs
Pirate costume - you can be - A 'Treasure Island' pirate.
Blue jumper, brown trousers tucked into long socks - you can be - Tintin
Princess dress up - you can be – Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White
Witches dress up - you can be - Winnie the Witch or The Worst Witch
Now for the kids that don't really like dress up
Remember there's plenty of books that have every day children wearing every day clothes: Horrid Henry, James and the Giant Peach, George who made his Marvellous Medicine, The Dumping Ground characters, The Spiderwick Chronicles characters.
Why it matters to join in no matter what you're wearing
We all know how precious a favourite book can be. Now thanks to National Book Tokens and lots of book publishers and booksellers, World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, will be distributing more than 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children, (that’s almost one for every child/young person under 18 in the UK and Ireland). Meaning that children everywhere can buy a book to love for life.
